Vertical Entertainment has acquired the distribution rights for A New York Story for North America and the UK, including Ireland—the newest film by Sophia and Fiona Roberts, sisters who developed the film together. The film follows the journey of an upper-class New Yorker breaking out of her “gilded cage” to discover the love and warmth of an underground art community and lover.
Fiona Robert directed and acted as the lead playing Annabel, with Sophia Robert co-writing the script with Fiona who acted as Virginia the antagonist of the story who tries to keep Annabel from following her heart. The sisters started production on the film shortly after their directorial debut The Country Club and explored societal expectations, social cliques, and grief.
A New York Story also features a star-studded ensemble cast with Paul Karmiryan playing the artist’s love interest Theo. Richard Ellis, Noelle Miller, Francesca Root-Dodson, Dan Thompson, Elaine Hendrix and Carolyn Farina join as supporting cast in this dramatic tale of love.
A New York Story premiered at Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival earlier this year and will have its theater premiere on September 6th. Tony Piantedosi of Verical’s acquisition negotiated the deal for Vertical with Circus Road Films on behalf of the Robert sisters.
