‘Venom: The Last Dance Fends Off The Competition This Weekend With $52 Million Domestically

Venom and Eddie’s final adventure together is starting to shape up to win the weekend at the box office. Despite this, Venom: The Last Dance is still landing under the domestic opening of the previous entries in the defies.

The Last Dance sees Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock on the run with his alien symbiote Venom, only able to rely on each other’s help. As both of their species close in on them, the pair will be forced up against a choice that could mean the end of them.

With Friday showings totaling to $22 million, Venom is looking to stay on a steady course for an opening or $52 million domestically, a little lower than the $65 million that the early estimates suggested.

Variety noted that despite being on top for the weekend, the opening for Last Dance is still below the previous two films. Venom opened to $80 million in its first weekend, with $32 million coming from Friday shows. The follow up, Let There Be Carnage, saw an uptick in numbers, with $37 million on Friday, leading to $90 million for the weekend.

Smile 2 takes up the silver rank for the pre-Halloween weekend with $10.3 million, down from the $23 million opening. By the end of the night, the horror flick will be pushed up to $41 million, with its worldwide gross sitting at $59 million.

Variety also noted that the budget of the film is reported to sit around $28 million, a number that it was already able to come close to matching first weekend.

Third place goes to Conclave, a drama about a man who has to hold together the Vatican following the sudden death of the pope. By the close of its first weekend, the Ralph Fiennes-led film is looking to bring in $6.5 million.

The Wild Robot continues its stint in the top five, with $6.2 million, while We Live In Time finishes out with $5 million.
