It’s official: the name of the next Venom movie is Venom: Let There Be Carnage, obviously a nod to Woody Harrelson’s villain, who was teased at the end of the first film. Unfortunately, Venom: Let There Be Carnage has also been pushed back a year due to of the coronavirus outbreak. Earlier the film was set for release October 8 of this year, but now audiences will be waiting until June 25, 2021.
Tom Hardy will be returning to the role of Eddie Brock, a reporter who shares his body with the alien symbiote Venom (also voiced by Hardy). As mentioned above, Woody Harrelson will be playing antagonist Cletus Kasady, a serial killer who becomes the host of a fellow symbiote, dubbing himself Carnage. Reprising their roles are Michelle Williams as Brock’s ex-fiancée Anne Weying and Reid Scott as her boyfriend Dan Lewis. It’s also been revealed that Naomie Harris has been cast as Shriek, a love interest for Harrelson’s character, and that Stephen Graham and Sean Delaney will be playing unknown roles. Andy Serkis has been hired as director, and Kelly Marcel as screenwriter.
News of when a poster or trailer will be released is currently unknown, but it has been reported that Sony wants to establish Venom as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Sony originally wanted Tom Holland make an appearance as Spider-Man). Morbius, another Marvel film by Sony, has been established as a part of the MCU as well, thanks to a cameo by Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes at the end of its original trailer. Perhaps we may see a crossover or team-up between Venom and Morbius at some point in the future.
