USC Scipter Award Nominees Announced

The nominations have been announced for the USC Libraries Scripter Award, selected by a jury of writers, filmmakers, journalists and academics. Celebrating their 28th year, the USC Scripter Award celebrates both the screenwriter and the writer of the original source material for adapted screenplays.

While when the USC Scripters were established, it was considered a fairly eccentric prize that didn’t really have much relation to the Oscar’s Best Adapted Screenplay category, in recent years matches among the USC Scripter Award and the Oscars have become a lot more common. Last year, both agreed on The Imitation Game.

• The Big Short– written by Charles Randolph and Adam McKay; adapted from the non-fiction book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lewis
• Brooklyn– written by Nick Hornby; adapted from the novel by Colm Tóibín
• The End of the Tour– written by Daniel Margulies; adapted from the memoir Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace by David Lipsky
• The Martian– written by Drew Goddard; adapted from the novel by Andy Weir
• Room– written by Emma Donaghue; adapted from her novel.
