As another attempt to bring the Resident Evil games to the big screen is in production, the cast is starting to take shape. Austin Abrams is being eyed to appear in the film.
Resident Evil has been adapted for the big screen several times before, and even onto the small screen as well. Based on the horror/survival video game series, each game follows a character as they try to navigate an apocalyptic setting, surviving zombies and trying to stay alive in a world trying to kill them.
Currently, there is no concrete information on what character Abrams would be playing, but given the fact that he’s one of the earliest names being revealed in the casting process, one could speculate he’ll play the co-protagonist of the first game, Chris Redfield.
Upon their original report, Hollywood Reporter reached out to distributor Sony for any comment on the potential casting, but they did not have a reply.
A seasoned actor already, Abrams has appeared in a multitude of big name shows and movies at the age of 28. He’s even already stepped into the horror genre with roles in Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark and a role in the fifth and sixth season of The Walking Dead.
The new Resident Evil is being helmed by Zach Cregger as writer and director. One of his new upcoming films, Weapons, is also a horror film. Coincidentally, as well, Abrams is also reportedly set to star in that film, which is slated to release in 2025.
