Newly released concept art from Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) showcases a range of Wolverine Variants and alternative costumes that were considered during production. Among the designs are unique takes like the Hulkverine, demonstrating the variety of creative directions Marvel Studios explored for the film. This collection of Variants was intended to bring fresh, comic-accurate visuals to the big screen, including iconic characters like Human Torch, though budget and time constraints ultimately limited how many of these concepts made it into the movie.
Dean Zimmerman, editor of Deadpool & Wolverine, recently shared insights into the challenges the team faced. Due to the tight production timeline, each character look had to be carefully selected. For example, Wolverine’s brown and tan suit alone cost over $100,000 to create, making it one of the many instances where design ambition had to balance with budget considerations. Zimmerman highlighted the pressure on the team to bring these intricate ideas to life within a short timeframe.
Directed by Shawn Levy, who also directed 2021’s Free Guy, and starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, best known for playing these super heroes, Deadpool & Wolverine showcases both actors in roles that seem tailor-made for them, with cameo appearances by other Marvel favorites. The film is available on digital platforms and physical formats, letting fans dive deeper into the world of Deadpool, Wolverine, and Marvel’s Variant-filled multiverse.
The Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine concept art book will be available for purchase from Penguin Random House on Oct 29th. At 224 pages, fans are sure to find more intriguing insights into the creative process that brought them this latest franchise addition.
