Universal Pictures has set the date for Amblin Pictures Bios, starring Tom Hanks, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The sci-fi film will be released in theaters on October 2, 2020. Bios focuses on the idea of what it is like to be the last man on earth as Tom Hanks, as Finch, must now face his own mortality. The film is being directed by Game of Thrones’ Miguel Sapochnik in collaboration with Annihilation‘s Ivor Powell and Aliens‘ Craig Luck as its writers.
With Bios‘ release date set, Universal also announced dates for a few of their upcoming projects including the haunted house thriller The Turning next year on February 22, 2019. The Turning stars Mackenzie Davis (Tully) as well as Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and upcoming actress Brooklynn Prince in a story that features a mysterious house where a new nanny must take care of two unique orphans, Flora and Miles. Floria Sigismondi (The Handmaid’s Tale) is helming the film.
Lastly, Amblin Entertainment’s A Dog’s Journey is set to release in theaters on May 17, 2019. The film is being directed by Gail Mancuso (Modern Family). All three films will be distributed by Universal Pictures. It appears that many of the films are featuring directors from television, leaving us to wonder if the transition will fare well for them.
