Universal Announces Title And 2028 Release Date For Next ‘The Fast And The Furious’ Movie: ‘Fast Forever’

Universal has finally announced an official title and release date for the next, and potentially last, Fast & Furious movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Starting in 2001 with the original The Fast and the Furious, the car-focused action series has grown in popularity over its 25-year lifespan into a $7 billion franchise with 11 entries, including a spin-off.

The latest entry, Fast X, was released in 2023, grossing $714 million against a budget of $340 million, struggling to break even when considering marketing and theater splits. Universal has delayed the next installment whilst considering how to cut down costs to return the franchise to its previous success and profitability. Now, the studio has announced that the twelfth entry officially has a title, Fast Forever, and a release date, March 17, 2028.

Franchise star Vin Diesel, who plays Dominic Toretto, shared the announcement with a celebratory post on his Instagram:

No one said the road would be easy… but it’s ours. One that has defined us and become our legacy… And a legacy… lasts Forever. March 17th, 2028! FAST FOREVER.

Diesel also shared an image of himself and fellow series star Paul Walker. Walker tragically passed away during the production of Furious 7, with his role in the film completed through CGI, archival footage, and the use of his brothers Caleb and Cody Walker as stand-ins.

Diesel previously teased last year that the new film would reunite Toretto and Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, saying,

That is what you’re going to get in the finale.

Fast Forever is also expected to return to the street racing roots of the first film.

As things currently stand, it is unknown when the film will officially go into production.
