‘Underdogs’ U.S. Trailer Released

The Weinstein Company has released the first trailer for the Argentine/Spanish animated sports movie Underdogs. The film follows local foosball legend Jake (Matthew Morrison), who challenges local bully turned soccer-pro Ace (Nicholas Hoult) to a soccer game in order to save his hometown from demolition. In order to defeat his rival, Jake gets help from foosball players-come-to-life.

The film, originally titled Foosball 3D, grossed $25 million internationally and is the second-highest grossing film of all time in Argentina. The Weinstein company picked up the U.S. distribution rights in hopes of finding similar success stateside. The Weinsteins have had middling success with animated films in the past however, with their most successful being Escape from Planet Earth and the first installment in the Hoodwinked! series. Neither reached the heights of Pixar or Dreamworks’ best.

The company is banking on some of that success coming from recasting the film from the version that released in England and included Rupert Grint (Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone) and Rob Brydon (The Trip to Italy). Ariana Grande and Katie Holmes also lend their voices to the U.S. version of  the film.

No release date has been announced as of yet. You can watch the trailer below:
