‘Uncharted’ Makes $3.7 Million in Thursday Previews Alone

Variety reports on the box office for the Thursday previews of Uncharted. The film has made $3.7 million during its Thursday previews. The film’s massive budget of $120 million means that it will need a large box office in order to make a profit. The profitability of the film will decide if Uncharted has franchise potential.

The success of a film like Uncharted relies on its international market. This weekend the film opens in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, and the United States.

Uncharted is an action adventure film based on the video game series of the same name. The film stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake alongside Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. The duo embark on a journey to find the lost gold of famed explorer Ferdinand Magellan before a conniving aristocrat, played by Antonio Banderas, can find the gold first. The film also features Sophia Ali as the untrustworthy third member of the treasure hunting team and Gabrielle Tati as Banderas’ top henchman.

Holland’s most recent film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, was a massive box office success. Uncharted will show what sort of star power Holland has outside of being attached to the iconic Spider-Man character he is best known for. The success of a film like Uncharted could prove that Holland can fill theaters without being associated with the web-slinging hero.

I was introduced to the arts through acting in musicals and plays. I hope to pursue screenwriting for television. I have an interest in studying the arts and what interests audiences which has led me to writing about films at MXDWN.
