Tis the season for new castings, as Tyrese Gibson has become the latest addition to the upcoming Netflix sequel for 2018’s holiday hit The Christmas Chronicles, according The Hollywood Reporter. The Christmas Chronicles 2 will feature an impressive cast while adding Darlene Love of Lethal Weapon fame and, of course, sees Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn reprise their roles as Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Returning cast members include Darby Camp, Judah Lewis and Kimberly Williams-Paisley.
While a producer on the original film, Chris Columbus returns will return as director this time and co-wrote the script alongside Matt Lieberman. The story resumes shortly after the first film as Darby Camp’s character Kate is now a teen and experiencing feelings of cynicism over the holidays. She reunites with Santa by a strange coincidence and encounters a new threat named Belsnickel, who threatens to end Christmas forever. Gibson will be playing the role of Williams-Paisley’s boyfriend.
Gibson previously appeared in the crime thriller Black and Blue this fall and is currently preparing for a sumptuous 2020 schedule. He’s slated to make a return to the Fast and Furious franchise’s ninth installment on May 22 and will be making an appearance in the upcoming Marvel film Morbius opposite Jared Leto.
