The cast of Adam McKay’s new Netflix film, Don’t Look Up, just got a little bit bigger with the addition of Madea creator Tyler Perry, Heavenly Creatures actor Melanie Lynskey, and Hellboy star Ron Perlman. Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo Dicaprio, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Himesh Patel, Timothée Chalamet, Cate Blanchett, and Rob Morgan are already attached to star.
The film will center on two low-level scientists, played by Lawrence and DiCaprio, who discover that a meteor is hurling towards earth and will strike in six months. To warn the world, the two embark on a media tour, only to be doubted by the unreceptive population.
McKay is also known for his stylistic use of celebrity cameos in recent films like The Big Short, and Don’t Look Up looks to continue this trend. The new film will feature cameos from stars like Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Matthew Perry and Tomer Sisley.
The movie will begin shooting in Boston next week, with McKay producing under his Hyperobject label with his partner Kevin Messick.
It’s currently unclear what characters the new cast members will play. Perry worked with McKay when he played Gen. Colin Powell in the 2018 film Vice. Lynskey is known for her roles in HBO’s Togetherness, and her part in the Emmy-nominated historical mini-series, Mrs. America. Perlman is best known for his work on the Hellboy movies and Sons of Anarchy.
Netflix is planning on releasing the film sometime in 2021.
