Within the past week, Lionsgate has released two teaser clips in anticipation of the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 on November 21st. With only one month left to wait, fans of the beloved franchise have had little to go on since the official trailer‘s debut last month. Thankfully these two clips up-the-ante, teasing some key characters and scenes within the novel, as well as Lorde’s original song for the soundtrack.
Panem’s heroine, Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle), is the focus in these snippets, but also featured are her co-stars Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right), Liam Hemsworth (Paranoia), Woody Harrelson (Zombieland), Julianne Moore (The Hours), and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote).
In the first teaser, we witness Katniss’s dramatic return to her ravaged home of District 12 after the rebellion commenced toward the end of the series’ second installment, Catching Fire. Check it out below:
Set to the dark, ethereal sounds of Lorde, the quiet stillness surrounding Katniss as she assembles herself for battle sets the stage for the explosive events that are to follow. Director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, as well as the series’ previous entry, Catching Fire) does well in this first glimpse to set up Katniss as a symbol of life amid destruction, which will characterize her role throughout the remainder of the series.
In the second teaser, we see Katniss’s “choice” following her visit to the ruins of District 12 as well as her seeing Peeta alive (and under The Capitol’s influence) for the first time since being in the arena. The footage sets up some pivitol turning points in the film, as Katniss solidifies her leadership in the rebellion and finds herself leaning more toward Hemsworth’s Gale. See the video below, and check back for more coverage before the film’s premiere.
