Spy, the upcoming action-comedy starring Melissa McCarthy and written and directed by Paul Feig, is looking to fill out its supporting roles. According to The Hollywood Reporter Bobby Cannavale and Nia Long are in talks to join cast that also includes Jude Law, Jason Statham, Rose Byrne, and Miranda Hart. The film was previously called ‘Susan Cooper’ after the name of its lead character.
McCarthy stars as a CIA agent looking to avenge the death of her lover played by Law. Statham tags along as a clumsy but eager spy. Cannavale, if he joins, will appear as a supporting villain and Long will play a high-ranking CIA official. Cannavale previously starred on the Showtime TV series Nurse Jackie and will appear in Imagine and Sony’s remake of Annie. Long has television credits on Malibu Stacy and House of Lies and was most recently in The Best Man Holiday.
Spy will be the third film Feig has directed starring McCarthy. The two previously found success with Bridesmaids and The Heat, which starred McCarthy as a police officer alongside Sandra Bullock. Feig will produce Spy along with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Jesse Henderson and will reach theaters on May 22, 2015.
