Upcoming thriller Turpentine has just brought on a whole slew of heavy hitters as supporting cast. Will Brill, Paul Walter Hauser, Boyd Holbrook, Teyonah Paris, Michael Peña, and Veronika Slowikowska have been confirmed to star, in addition to those already attached.
Directed by Craig Zobel, Turpentine follows a young deadbeat with wealthy parents who won’t share their money with him. When he needs a large sum of cash to pay someone off, he enlists his friends’ help to attempt to rob his parents, only to encounter disastrous results. Already cast in the film was Connor Storie in the leading role, alongside Melissa McCarthy and Bill Camp. Deadline noted that each of the six new cast members already hails from well-regarded backgrounds. Brill is widely known for The Musical, with two pictures coming up from Apple and Netflix. Hauser, who starred in The Naked Gun and Fantastic Four: First Steps, will also be appearing in another thriller later this year, once Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil hits theaters.
With other works in Logan and Gone Girl, Holbrook most recently won audiences over in A Complete Unknown, in which he played Johnny Cash. Teyonah Paris had worked in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Monica Rambeau and was even in the remake of Candyman. Peña is another MCU regular in the Ant-Man films, as one of Scott Lang’s best friends. Finally, Slowikowska appeared in some hit streaming shows, including Tires and Poker Face. This won’t be the first thriller that director Zobel has helmed throughout his career. His 2020 film, The Hunt, was also a thriller, drawing on horror elements as well. He even directed several episodes for HBO’s 2024 series The Penguin, based on the iconic Batman villain.
