Tubi Scores Streaming Rights to Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Red 11’, Accompanying Docuseries

Robert Rodriguez’s newest film, a sci-fi horror flick titled Red 11, has found itself a home. Streaming service Tubi has scored its exclusive streaming rights Monday, following the film’s premiere at SXSW last year. The film’s release will be accompanied by the docuseries The Robert Rodriguez Film School, a 60 minute behind the scenes look at how he made Red 11 for just $7,000.

Based on Rodriguez’s own experiences at a medical research facility nearly 30 years ago, in which used the money from said experience to finance his first feature-length film El Mariachi, Red 11 follows college kids in a “dark, twisted version of the Legal Drug Research business.” It continues on its SXSW page, “our hero, Rob, is there to pay off his $7,000 debt. But when things go wrong, he isn’t sure if the hospital is trying to kill him or if it’s side effects from the drugs.” Adam Lewinson, Chief Content Officer at Tubi stated that Red 11 and the accompanying docuseries will be “inspirational to up-and-coming filmmakers,” and that they are “thrilled to amplify Robert’s message to the next generation of filmmakers as a part of our commitment to helping independent films find a wide audience.”

Red 11 and The Robert Rodriguez Film School will be available to stream on Tubi, an ad-supported free service, starting this summer.
