Trailer Released For Sundance Film ‘Afternoon Delight’

Jill Soloway (United States of Tara) has a history writing and producing television, but Afternoon Delight is her first attempt at directing a film. It would seem she has a talent for it – Soloway won the Best Director award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is already being compared to directors like Judd Apatow and Tina Fey. Afternoon Delight has since been picked up by indie distributor Film Arcade and is now headed for a limited theatrical release next month.

The story centers on Rachel, a bored housewife who decides to try to reform a young stripper by hiring her as a nanny while working through her own issues with herself and her husband. Soloway also wrote the film’s script. See the theatrical trailer here:

Based on reviews from Sundance and the movie’s promising cast, including Jane Lynch (Glee), Kathryn Hahn (Anchorman), Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother), and Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises), it’s almost surprising that Afternoon Delight didn’t attract a wider theatrical release. At any rate, moviegoers can find it at their local indie theater starting August 23.
