Sony Pictures Classic has released a trailer for Love is Strange, the story of a newlywed gay couple forced out of their apartment. John Lithgow and Alfred Molina have the starring roles with Marisa Tomei, Cheyenne Jackson, Darren Burrows, Charlie Tahan, and Manny Perez. The film is directed and co-written by Ira Sachs with fellow writer Mauricio Zacharias. Sachs and Zacharias previously collaborated on Keep the Lights On.
Ben (Lithgow) and George (Molina) are a New York couple who finally get married after living together for almost 40 years. Their marriage causes Ben to lose his job as a Catholic school teacher, which forces the two to move out of their apartment and live in different households, Ben with his relatives and Molina with their old next-door neighbors. The two must adapt to the pain of living apart while intruding in the lives of other families.
Love is Strange was well reviewed at this year’s Sundance Film Festival where it got picked up for distribution by Sony. The film will open in select theaters on August 22.
