A new trailer has just come out for The Man Who Invented Christmas. The film centers around the famous British author, Charles Dickens, allowing for the storyteller’s own personal narrative to be relayed. Additionally, the movie promises to focus on how he developed his iconic Dickensian characters. This premise could prove entertaining, as it allows the film to explore multiple connected stories while still having a root in well-known literature. However, judging from the trailer, it’s also fair to say that the film is not beholden to actual history.
Actors Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast), Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones), and Christopher Plummer (The Sound of Music) will serve as the starring actors. Stevens will play Charles Dickens, Pryce will play John Dickens, while Plummer will play Ebeneezer Scrooge, character built by (you guessed it) Dickens. They will be working alongside Donald Sumpter (In the Heart of the Sea), Ger Ryan (Redemption), and Morfydd Clark (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies).
One of the main actors, Plummer, delightfully introduces the trailer himself, even spouting out his character’s signature phrase and donning his hat. It can be viewed below.
The Man Who Invented Christmas will reach theaters on November 22 of this year, which is just in time for topical holiday viewing.
