In 2013, Jessica Chastain was inches away from receiving her first Academy Award for Zero Dark Thirty, a feat that is still surely merited considering her illustrious career and brilliant performances. Although the quirky and spunky Jennifer Lawrence stole the Academy’s hearts with her turn in Silver Linings Playbook, 2017 might just be Chastain’s year.
The role that may finally earn her the heavy gold statuette — Elizabeth Sloane in Miss Sloane. Chastain stars as an ambitious lobbyist who takes on the powerful gun lobby in an attempt to pass gun control legislation. Miss Sloane also marks the Hollywood return of director John Madden (Shakespeare in Love). An Oscar-nominated director, a liberal-leaning story and the incomparable Jessica Chastain make the perfect combination come awards season. Chastain is joined by Mark Strong, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Alison Pill and Sam Waterson.
Miss Sloane hits theaters nationwide on Dec. 9. Watch the first trailer below.
