Trailer for ‘Madeline’s Madeline’

The new trailer for Madeline’s Madeline, from writer-director Josephine Decker, doesn’t give much information on what the film is actually about, in a traditional sense. It does, however, showcase the film’s powerful and offbeat visuals (including someone in a turtle costume waddling towards the sea) and the passion of the leads’ performances.

The film introduces Helena Howard as Madeline, who joins prestigious theater troupe under an ambitious director played by Molly Parker. When Madeline begins to channel her complicated relationship with her mother (Miranda July) into her art, reality, performance, and genre begin to bend.

Indie director Decker has been known for her innovative, messy, and deeply compelling films, and Madeline’s Madeline seems to be no exception.

The film hits theaters on August 10.
