Upcoming Spanish psychological thriller film Everybody knows (Todos lo Saben) had a trailer released today for its US release. It is written and directed by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi (The Salesman) and stars Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz, Ricardo Darín, and Bárbara Lennie.
The film follows Laura (Cruz) as she returns to her hometown outside of Madrid for her sister’s wedding. She brings her two children along with her and all of the festive ceremony goes well until her eldest daughter is abducted during the celebration. In the trailer we see the characters of both Cruz and Bardem searching for her and dealing with tense situations with family as secrets start to reveal themselves. It looks to be an intense and mind warping film with a strong cast, as Cruz and Bardem are known for their powerful performances.
Everybody Knows was released in Spain on September 14 of this year and opened at both Cannes Film Festival in May and Toronto International Film Festival in September. This is why a number of reviews already exist and the movie has garnered, as of today, a 62% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the film will hit american theaters on February 8, 2019, distributed by Focus Features.
