The first trailer for Disney’s Lady and the Tramp has just dropped at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California today. The film is a live-action reboot of Walt Disney’s 1955 animated feature of the same name. It will debut on the new streaming service called Disney+ on November 12th and will be the first Disney remake to not have a theatrical release.
Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux will voice Lady and Tramp, respectively, and will be joined by actors Kiersey Clemmons and Thomas Mann who play the dogs’ owners, along with Yvette Nicole Brown, Arturo Castro, Ken Jeong, Sam Elliott, and Janelle Monáe. The film’s director is Charlie Bean, who directed The Lego Ninjago Movie, and Andrew Bujalski wrote the script.
The trailer is very much reminiscent of the recent Lion King remake with its stunning visuals. The new Lady and the Tramp seems to capture the early time period within which the original film is set and even has the famous spaghetti date scene between the two dogs in puppy love. It almost makes you wish that you could see it in theaters on a date or with friends, but buying a subscription to Disney+ will have to suffice.
