Jake Gyllenhaal has teamed up with big name stars Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly and Riz Ahmed in the next dark comedy based on Patrick Dewitt’s 2011 novel, The Sisters Brothers.
The film, directed by Jacques Audiard in his directorial debut for an English film, is set in 1851. It follows siblings Phoenix and Reilly who are given the job to travel from Oregon City to San Francisco in order to murder a chemist (Ahmed) who stole from their boss. The brothers work with a prospector (Gyllenhaal) to find the chemist, but plans change when they realize what he is really making.
The project is being distributed by Annapurna, and has no official release date as of yet, but is set to potentially debut at the Venice International Film Festival. Auidard previously directed French films including A Prophet, Rust and Bone and Dheepan, which took the Palm d’Or at Cannes in 2015.
