In case you feared you had seen the last of those enjoyably snarky little penguins from Dreamworks Animation’s Madagascar movies, then you are in for a treat. Today we get our first look at the trailer for their first very own spin-off movie, The Penguins of Madagascar.
The basic premise features the familiar gang of secret agent birds – Skipper, Kowalski, Private, and Rico – teaming up with newly introduced Agent Classified to defeat the evil Dr. Octavius Brine before he can take over the world. Providing voices for the animated movie will be the incredibly busy Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness), John Malkovich (Red 2), Ken Jeong (The Hangover series), Peter Stormare (The Big Lebwoski), and Annet Mahendru (TV’s The Americans). The movie is co-directed by Eric Darnell (the previous Madagascar movies) and Simon J. Smith (Bee Movie), so there’s little reason to think it won’t measure up to audience expectations.
This trailer hits the web just days before the release of Dreamworks Animation’s much-anticipated How to Train Your Dragon 2, the second in another of the company’s popular franchises. Fox will release the family-friendly movie – in 3D naturally – on November 26th, where it will compete over the long Thanksgiving weekend with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, and alongside Cumberbatch’s live-action and much more adult-oriented WWII drama The Imitation Game.
