Trailer Airs for Jon Hamm Film ‘Marjorie Prime’

The trailer for Marjorie Prime has just been released!

Using the source material of a play by Jordan Harrison, Marjorie Prime will follow the relationship between characters played by Jon Hamm (We’re the Joneses) and Lois Smith (The Nice Guys). While the film tackles the futuristic concept of improved artificial intelligence, it promises to utilize its chosen genre of science fiction to explore the nature of humanity and the perceptions of one’s own past.

Ultimately, Smith’s character chooses to look back on her future so that she can understand her present, speaking with a holographic simulation of the man who used to be her husband, played by Hamm. However, her family finds trouble accepting her choice, especially because it seems like she prioritizes a being of artificial intelligence over those who are still alive. Still, the solace Smith’s character finds is impermanent, and as her memories continue to fade, she realizes that this recreation of her dead husband cannot help her in the way she needs.

Michael Almereyda (Experimenter) will wrote and directed the film, using Harrison’s play as inspiration. Other actors appearing in the movie include Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption) and Geena Davis (A League of Their Own).

The trailer can be watched below and see it in theaters on August 18.
