Tony Hawk to Get Documentary on His Life and Skateboarding Career

Variety has revealed that skateboarder Tony Hawk will be the subject of a forthcoming feature documentary. The title of the film is still to be determined, but it will be directed by Sam Jones, the filmmaker behind other documentaries like I Am Trying to Break Your Heart or Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued.

Hawk seems to have given his blessing to the project, as he told Variety: “We have already shot everything for it, it’s just in the editing process.” He even provided materials: “I definitely wanted to give them as much footage and interview as possible,” he added.

This would be the 53-year-old skateboarder’s second collaboration with Jones, the first one being in 2014, in an episode of the talk show Off Camera with Sam Jones, where Hawk was a guest.

Further information on the documentary is yet to be revealed, but a fall festival launch is to be expected, followed by a 2022 wider release.

Although this is the first authorized feature-length documentary on Hawk, his famous video game franchise already received this kind of treatment last year, when worldwide rights for Ludvig Gür’s Pretending I’m Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story were picked up by Wood Entertainment. He also has experience with documentary filmmaking after making appearances in 2012 doc Bones Brigade: An Autobiography.
