Netflix has expanded the ensemble cast for its upcoming romantic heist feature Positano, adding Academy Award nominee Toni Collette and Anora actor Karren Karagulian. The new additions join previously announced lead stars Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña in the Italian-set production.
Alongside Collette and Karagulian, the streamer confirmed three European actors for the cast: Italian actor Salvatore Esposito (Gomorrah), Michele Savoia (Ferrari), and Lorenzo de Moor (You, Me & Tuscany). Specific plot details regarding the newly added characters remain undisclosed by the studio.
Directed by Academy Award winner Daniel Roher (Navalny, Tuner), Positano centers on a charismatic jewel thief who abandons his high-rolling lifestyle to assist a mysterious woman. Together, the duo orchestrates a high-stakes heist across the picturesque Italian coast, driven by motivations that extend far beyond financial gain.
The original screenplay was penned by screenwriting duo Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood. Production is being handled by Working Title Films, with founders Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan serving as producers alongside Derrin Schlesinger. Executive producers for the project include Amelia Granger and Katherine Pomfret for Working Title, as well as Tanaka and Gatewood.
Collette’s recent screen credits include Clint Eastwood’s drama Juror #2, Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, and the Netflix thriller series Wayward. Her slate includes the Morten Tyldum feature Ibelin and Netflix’s artificial intelligence thriller 2034. Karagulian, known for his long-standing creative collaborations with filmmaker Sean Baker, will next appear in David Fincher’s The Adventures of Cliff Booth and Amazon MGM’s holiday comedy The Man with the Bag.
Principal photography for Positano is set to take place in Italy. Netflix has not yet scheduled an official premiere date for the feature.
