2021 saw the release of the much anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home, which featured Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, teaming up with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, to take on slew of classic Spider-Man villains. But since the film ended, fans have been questioning how Holland’s friendly neighborhood hero will make his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, it would seem they finally have a potential answer.
While his animated counterpart is currently ripping up the box office like it’s nobody’s business, Tom Holland has been sitting in on some meetings to discuss the future of the character, along with Marvel president Kevin Feige, producer Amy Pascal, and number of other executives. Holland himself said, “It’s a collaborative process. The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why. I’m really, really happy with where we’re at in terms of the creative.”
While they may have found the reason for why, the stigma surrounding a fourth entry in a series still looms over the project, Holland notes. “I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life.”
While No Way Home was a colossal hit in the post-pandemic era, and a fourth film was all but guaranteed after it made all that money, the fourth outing for Holland’s webslinger seems to be on a temporary hold, due to the writer’s strike in Hollywood. “I can’t talk about that, but I can say that we have been having meetings. We’ve put the meetings on pause in solidarity with the writers,” Holland said, but also added that what they are talking about at the present moment is still in the infancy of development.
