Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Tom Holland has dropped his first Uncharted on-set photo with the caption, “Day one,” suggesting that the thriller has begun filming after initial delays in production due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Per CinemaBlend, a Sony representative confirmed that filming hasn’t began just yet. That being said, Holland’s appearance on-set certainly shows that the cast and crew are ready to go and nearing production.
Uncharted is one of Holland’s first major, in-person role after 2019’s Spider-Man: Far from Home, along with Doug Liman’s Chaos Walking, which has already finished filming. Uncharted is based off of Naughty Dog and Sony’s popular video game series, which follows Nathan Drake, a British explorer, and his various escapades traveling the world and looking for myths and treasure. Holland is set to play Drake in the film adaptation.
After going through almost ten years of rewrites, edits, changes in cast and crew, the film will finally be released in 2021, barring no further delays from the pandemic. It is now officially set to be directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Venom) and was written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man). Along with Holland, Mark Wahlberg and Antonio Banderas are set to star in the movie.
