Tom Holland Reveals How ‘No Way Home’ Hid the Returning Villains

MCU’s Spider-Man, Tom Holland, revealed how Spider-Man: No Way Home kept its returning villains behind the curtains: allegedly some long-black cloaks. According to Collider, Holland made the reveal during a fan event he attended in Los Angeles. The star also shared how the cloaks led to a surprise encounter on the set.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will feature Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus), Jamie Foxx (Electro), Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin), and, recently revealed, Thomas Haden Church (Sandman) and Rhys Hans (Lizard). The return of these villains had to be kept from the public eye during production, which meant actors had to wear black cloaks on set, preventing fans from taking unintentional behind-the-scenes pictures.

While black cloaks kept things a secret, it also led to a humorous encounter between Holland and Dafoe.

“It’s actually a funny story when I met Willem for the first time. Obviously, at that time, all of the villains in the film, it was a huge secret that they were in the film. So they would walk around set with these cloaks on. Naturally, these guys were very excited to be coming back and bringing these roles back to life,” Holland revealed. “I just sort of bumped into this guy in a cloak. I was like, ‘Watch out, mate.’ He took his cloak off, and I almost got really scared — Oh shit, the Goblin’s here.”

No Way Home will focus on the MCU’s multiverse, which allowed Sony to bring their previous Spider-Man characters into MCU. While only villains have been confirmed in the upcoming film, fans speculate that Maguire and Garfield will also be a part of it, although both actors have denied it.

We’ll find out once Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters Dec. 17.
