With the recent announcement that Warner Bros is planning film based on DC Comics’ Suicide Squad, casting news and rumors were inevitable. Deadline reports Tom Hardy (Locke), Will Smith (After Earth), and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) are all looking at roles in the upcoming anti-hero flick. If this casting bears fruit it will reunite Robbie and Smith who are co-starring in next year’s romantic caper, Focus.
While Suicide Squad would be Robbie’s first foray into the world of vigilantes and crazy costumes, Smith and Hardy have some experience in the field. Though not based on a comic book, Smith put on a pair of tights in Peter Berg’s 2008 superhero dramedy, Hancock. Hardy actually appeared in a film based on a different DC property when he played the musclebound villain Bane in the conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.
With the members of Suicide Squad‘s titular team also announced, geeks (film and comic book alike) may feel free match actors with characters as – will we. If Hardy is good with getting back into Bane-shape, he could play the hulking Blockbuster. Smith, being the senior amongst the announced actors could step into the leader role of Deadshot. With Wolf of Wallstreet, Robbie has already demonstrated her skill at playing someone with ferocity, so the animal-based Vixen can’t be too much of a stretch.
