Tom Hank’s ‘Forrest Gump’ Is Getting a Bollywood Remake

Since we are living in a world full of countless reboots, remakes, sequels, and prequels it may not surprise you to learn that even Forrest Gump is being remade. However, according to Movie Web, the culprit this time is not Hollywood, but rather Bollywood.

Indian movie studios Viacom18 Studios and Aamir Khan Productions will be producing their Forrest Gump remake under the title Laal Singh ChaddhaThe plot will be very similar to Forrest Gump, following the life of a mentally challenged man who keeps finding himself in the middle of major historical events, except Laal Singh Chaddha will most likely be about Indian history rather than US history.

The original Forrest Gump was directed by Robert Zemeckis and starred American treasure Tom Hanks as the titular character. It would go on to win several major Oscars, including Best Actor for Hanks and beating Pulp Fiction for Best Picture. Paramount, the studio that distributed Forrest Gump, is very excited about the remake.

Laal Singh Chaddha is being directed by Advait Chandan, best known for directing the movie Secret Superstar, while actor Aamir Khan will be playing the simple minded Sikh protagonist. Acting alongside Khan is actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, a major star in Bollywood right now. Laal Singh Chaddha is expected to be released in the winter of 2020.

Laal Singh Chaddha is not the only Indian remake of an American movie. Bollywood has already remade several Hollywood movies, and it looks like this trend of remakes is going to continue in both the USA and India.
