Tom Hanks’ ‘A Man Called Otto’ Reaches $100 Million Globally

A Man Called Otto (2022), featuring Tom Hanks as the leading man, has just crossed $100 million, to be more precise, $100.4 million. The film made $61.2 million in North America and $39.2 million overseas. (Via Variety)

The film was released on December 29, 2022.  It was initially going to be released nationwide for Christmas but instead released on January 13 so other holiday releases wouldn’t raze it.

It is the second adaptation of A Man Called Ove (2012). The first adaptation came out in 2015, and unlike A Man Called Otto, it kept the exact name of the novel.

The film follows the grumpy Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks) in his numerous suicide attempts after losing his wife, Sonya. Instead of taking place in Sweden like the story it’s based on, it takes place in the United States in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

A Man Called Otto is distributed by Sony Pictures Releases and was directed by the Swiss filmmaker Marc Forster. Forster directed Finding Neverland (2004), and World War Z (2013), and will also be directing and producing for the highly anticipated Thomas & Friends: The Movie (2024). Forster has been nominated for four awards for Finding Neverland and won the Independent Spirit Award for Someone to Watch Award for the film Everything Put Together (2000).
