American actor and producer Tom Cruise is set to work on a new project under the direction of four-time Oscar-winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

Cruise, known for his roles in Top Gun and Mission: Impossible, is stepping into a new territory. The actor has starred in almost 50 projects and completed his stunts. He has taken on larger-than-life action heroes, especially through the Mission: Impossible series. It seems that he will wrap up the latest Mission: Impossible project just in time to start something new. 

The new film is untitled at the moment, and there is very little information on what the script is about. However, the script is sure to be promising as it will be co-written by Iñárritu, Nicolas Giacobone, and Alexander Dinelaris. 

The cast includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, and Sophie Wilde. It is set to begin production in the United Kingdom as soon as next month.

Working with Iñárritu marks an intriguing shift in Cruise’s career. This is exactly the kind of filmmaker who could help Cruise break out of his action-heavy reputation. During the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, Cruise was directly involved in negotiations, addressing key issues such as the rise of AI and the post-pandemic state of theaters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he also voiced strong support for the guild’s stance on protecting stunt performers.
