Tina Fey’s Untitled War Comedy Nabs Spring 2016 Release Date

Paramount Pictures had dated an upcoming feature film starring multiple Emmy Award winner Tina Fey (30 Rock). The movie- based on Kim Barker’s war memoir The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan– currently is untitled but is set to open theatrically on March 4, 2016. As of now, the film will square off against Disney’s Zootopia and London Has Fallen, the action sequel to the 2013 Gerard Butler-Aaron Eckhart film Olympus Has Fallen.

In the movie, Fey will portray Barker, an American journalist newly arrived in Kabul circa 2002. The film recounts her experiences in the volatile region while maneuvering the male-dominated beat of journalism as a reporter at ProPublica and the South Asia bureau chief for The Chicago Tribune. The movie had the working title The Taliban Shuffle and is currently listed IMDb as Fun House yet it appears unclear as to what moniker the film will settle on.

The impressive supporting cast includes Fargo co-horts Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman as well as Josh Charles (I Smile Back), Christopher Abbott (James White), Alfred Molina (Love Is Strange) and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street). Fey is keeping this film in the family so to speak as her 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt colleague Robert Carlock penned the screenplay and Fey’s former Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels is producing the title. Fey will co-produce as well.

Fey, last seen on screen in the 2014 ensemble dramedy This Is Where I Leave You, will next appear in the Universal comedy Sisters. That film also stars Amy Poehler and heads to theaters on December 18th- opposite a tiny movie called Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
