“This is Hollywood, and if something kind of works, they’ll just keep doing it until everybody hates it,” joked Tina Fey when she co-hosted the Golden Globes this past January. She was referring, of course, to the acclaim she and Amy Poehler received emceeing the same awards ceremony for the first time the year prior, making a funny about the industry’s sometimes desperate attempts to catch lightening in a bottle repeatedly. Hopefully no one one has grew to hate the pair together just yet because they have both signed up for the new comedy The Next, being set-up at Universal Pictures as a vehicle for the two funny women.
The Nest, to be directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), is a comedy revolving around two adult sisters (Fey and Poehler) who throw a massive house party before their childhood house gets sold. Life lessons may ensue, but even the thin log line might rear potential hilarity from the former Saturday Night Live cohorts and real life friends. Paula Pell wrote the screenplay. Her previous credits include Saturday Night Live (for which she earned an Emmy Award) and 30 Rock, Fey’s critical darling sitcom which wrapped up its seven season run in early 2013. This marks Pell’s feature debut. Fey, Poehler and Jay Roach (director of Meet the Parents) will serve as producers.
This marks the third feature film that Fey and Poehler have appeared together in. Poehler had a bit part in Mean Girls, a film which Fey co-starred in and wrote the screenplay for. They both starred in the 2008 comedy Baby Mama, and both had cameos in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues late last year. Fey can be currently seen on screen in Muppets Most Wanted, and will co-star for her Date Night director Shawn Levy in the ensemble comedy This Is Where I Leave You due this September. She may also appear in The Taliban Shuffle, which we reported earlier this year. Poehler is set to continue her Golden Globe winning role on the acclaimed NBC comedy Parks & Recreation and will (vocally at least) appear in the Pixar animated feature Inside Out, due in 2015. They will also be back hosting the Golden Globes Awards for the third consecutive year on January 11, 2015.
