Apparently Tina Fey and Amy Poehler don’t believe in the force. Their upcoming comedy Sisters – formerly titled The Nest – is the first film to stake a defense against the likely box office dominance of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens next year. The Jason Moore-directed (Pitch Perfect) comedy will release December 18, 2015, three days after the science fiction sequel.
Poehler recently told Entertainment Weekly that she is looking forward to facing off against what’s likely to be the biggest release of 2015. “We said we’d only do the movie if it opened against Star Wars,” she said. ”We’re not scared. It’s what gets us up in the morning: We are going to f—ing crush Star Wars.” Poehler and Fey last co-starred in the comedy Baby Mama. The two will host The 2015 Golden Globe Awards for the third consecutive year.
Fey and Poehler were announced as the leads for the comedy last spring. The film follows two sisters (Fey and Poehler) who find out their parents are selling their childhood home. The two decide to host an epic party to send it off right. The film is written by Paula Pell, a Saturday Night Live, writer who worked with Fey while she was head writer on the show. Fey is producing the movie with Jay Roach who has produced a number of comedies including The Campaign and Borat. Fellow SNL Alum, Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids) will also star in the movie along with John Leguizamo (Chef) and James Brolin (The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard).
