Illumination released the first trailer their next animated film, Not Alone, starring Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez. The two play Joe and Fran, two rocket engineers working together to build an environmentally-friendly spaceship. In the trailer, a flustered Joe asks Fran out on a date while the two of them work on the ship. Later on in the trailer, it is revealed that aliens may be involved, as a different ship crashes into Earth. The little alien creatures appear in Joe’s house at the end of the trailer.
The film is directed by Eric Guillon, who co-directed Despicable Me 3. He is joined by two co-directors, Claire Dodgson, who has edited several Illumination films, and Jonathan Del Val, co-director of Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Secret Life of Pets 2. Chalamet is fairly new to voice work, while Gomez has experience voicing Mavis in the Hotel Transylvania series. With Minions & Monsters launching this week, Not Alone will be Illumination’s next feature. The studio is mostly known for the Despicable Me and Minions franchises, but are also responsible for The Secret Life of Pets, Sing, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and several Dr. Suess adaptations.
Besides the two leads, the voice cast is filled out by Brett Goldstein, Rob Brydon, Jamie Demetriou, Diane Morgan, Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris. The film is set to release in April of 2027. Watch the full trailer below.
