The original 1987 hit Three Men and a Baby starred three of the 80’s biggest actors: Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, and Ted Danson, who played three bachelors whose lives quickly change by the arrival of a baby on their doorstep. The film was an instant hit, grossing $240 million worldwide against a budget of $11 million. The film was so popular that a sequel was released in 1990 titled Three Men & A Lady. Since 2018, there have been talks of a reboot of the cult classic, and this summer it was confirmed that Zac Efron will be cast as a main character. According to Screen Rant, the reboot is officially going to be released in 2022 on the streaming platform Disney+. The reboot is described as a modern take on the 1987 comedy with The Way Back’s Gordon Gray as the producer and Will Reichel (Hot Air) who is writing the script.
Efron appears to be a solid choice for the film, as the original film casted young heartthrob actors, and Efron is definitely categorized as one. Efron also has showcased his acting skills since moving away from his breakout role as Troy Bolton in Disney’s High School Musical. He has since portrayed the serial killer Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, as well as comedic roles such as in Neighbors and its sequel. The plot details for Three Men and a Baby are still under wraps, and a director is not attached to the film yet, but with Efron attached, there are high hopes for the reboot.
