Not yet set for an American release date, Russell Crowe’s directorial debut promises to be an sprawling historical beauty about the events surrounding the Battle of Gallipoli. Crowe’s character loses three sons in the war, reported to be missing in action, and sets out on a journey to bring them home.The trailer depicts Crowe’s character Connor as an Australian water diviner who sets out to find his missing boys as a promise to his deceased wife. Along the way, viewers are treated to sprawling desert views as well as beautiful shots of Turkey and Australia. Russell Crowe stars alongside Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) and Jai Courtney (Divergent). The movie is being distributed by The Weinstein Co., whose upcoming movies include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Legend (covered in another mxdwn Movies article here) and The Giver (covered here and reviewed here).
The movie was produced by Russell Crowe’s production company, Fear of God Films, and is the first credit the company, and the new director, have, and the only other movie slated under the company is called ‘Fathers and Daughters’, due to be released some time next year. The Water Diviner was produced by Troy Lum (I, Frankenstein) and Andrew Mason (‘The Matrix’ trilogy).
