‘The Throwaways’, Delayed by Massive Sony Hack, Gets New Release Date on Crackle

After being pulled from its original release date due to last November’s massive hack on Sony Pictures Entertainment, the cyber-attack action thriller The Throwaways has scored a new release date on the parent company’s Crackle platform.  The film was originally set for a December 16, 2014 launch, but was shelved by Sony when hackers breached their systems on November 24, resulting in the release of  a trove of sensitive emails and documents.  The film will now be available for streaming on Crackle beginning January 30.

In the film, Sam Huntington (the crowd-funded Veronica Mars film) portrays notorious hacker forced to work with the CIA in exchange for his freedom.  He forms a team of ‘Throwaways’ – people in the organization deemed expendable – to help track down another cyber-attacker.  James Caan (The Godfather), Katie McGrath, Kevin Dillon (TV’s Entourage) and Christian Hilborg round out the cast.  Tony Bui directs, from a script by Michael Arlen Ross and Don Handfield.  Check out the trailer above.
