The new Nintendo movie, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, isn’t earning many points from movie critics. Only a day after its April 1st release, the feature has many critics extremely disappointed with the latest Super Mario movie. While much of its audience is excited for the pure, colorful nostalgia, critics did not hold back on their totally unfiltered opinions of it.
In a review from The New York Times they stated,
Theres a flat empty nothingness to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, even more a bummer than its flat empty predecessor, and that’s a huge bummer.
Variety said,
Not a single one of these characters, including Mario and Luigi, occupies the center of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. And that’s because the movie has no center.
In another review, The Times UK said,
The film is torturous to sit through and, for me, provoked periods of physical discomfort.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has 42% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes thus far, as of Thursday evening, over 15% less that the 2023 Mario film. Aside from the negative reviews, the highly anticipated sequel is gearing up to hit huge numbers in the box office, already setting records for the biggest Wednesday opening in April for the US.
