The Suicide Squad marketing is heating up with just under two months before its release date. The James Gunn ensemble film released a trailer today with the song Rain, which will feature in the film.
Gunn is no stranger to soundtracks as The Guardians of the Galaxy films have become synonymous with its incredibly catchy and well-planned music choices.
Star Lord AKA Peter Quill’s character is designed around music from mixtapes from his mother. The original Suicide Squad was marketed in a similar way to those MCU films, but if this song Rain is any indication of the soundtrack, the music choices will differ greatly to the more 80’s rock of Peter Quill’s mixtape. Which is solid for Gunn, who typically tries to make every film and character different than his last.
I’ve been listening to “Rain” by @grandson with @Jessiereyez, the song used in #TheSuicideSquad trailer (& featured in the film), over & over for the past few months. Now it’s your turn! https://t.co/JsuE2w1oXs

The trailer itself focuses mostly on Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, introducing his motivations and his daughter. However, it quickly goes back to the eclectic group of supervillains led by Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. Eventually leading to some fun jokes and some more footage of the gang fighting Starro, who was the original Justice League villain in The Brave and the Bold #28 dating all the way back to 1960.
Gunn recently went on IGN and broke down this trailer. The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, David Dastmalchian as Polka- Dot Man, and many more. Best not get attached.
The DC property is set to blast into theaters, IMAX, and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
