‘The Stranger’ Trailer Brings Paranoia and Disease

This trailer makes The Stranger look less like a straight-up horror film, and more like a small town murder mystery, until the last few moments with the kid dripping blood from his mouth and talk of “humanity’s death sentence” that is. Of course, with someone like director Eli Roth (Hostel, The Green Inferno) on as a producer, there shouldn’t be much doubt concerning the film’s genre. Although this plot summary does help:

In this supernatural thriller, a mysterious man arrives in a small town seeking his wife, but his unwelcome presence and what he finds instead soon plunges the community into a bloodbath.

The Stranger will be the first English-language feature Chilean filmmaker Guillermo Amoedo has written and directed. Amoedo has previously worked with Roth, serving as co-writer on The Green Inferno (which Roth directed) and Aftershock (which Roth starred in), along with Roth’s upcoming thriller, Knock Knock (starring Keanu Reeves).

The Stranger had its premiere at the 2014 Fantastic Fest Film Festival. IFC Midnight is giving the film a limited theatrical run and VOD release starting June 12th.
