The Social Network Part II, which was announced back in June, has been given a new title and a new release date. The film, now titled The Social Reckoning, will be released in theaters on October 9th, 2026, more than 16 years after the release of The Social Network. It will be written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, who previously wrote The Social Network and won an Academy Award for that film’s screenplay, as well as writing other Oscar-nominated films such as Moneyball, Steve Jobs, Molly’s Game, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.
The film features an all-star cast, including Oscar winner Mikey Maddison, Jeremy Allen White, Bill Burr, and Oscar nominee Jeremy Strong. The plot will take place 17 years after The Social Network. It will follow a young Facebook engineer named Frances Haugen, played by Madison, who works alongside Wall Street reporter Jeff Horwitz, played by White, on a risky mission to reveal some of Facebook’s biggest secrets. After months of speculation about who would play the role of Mark Zuckerberg, who was previously played by Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network, it’s also been announced that Strong will be playing an older portrayal of the Meta CEO.
Producers on the film include Sorkin, as well as Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser. The film will be released by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
