The Russo Brothers Suggest Re-Releasing ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ When Theaters Reopen

A little over a year ago, audiences all around the world experienced possibly the biggest cinematic event in recent memory. Avengers: Endgame made a massive box office debut, with so many people flocking to theaters during the first week alone after waiting for almost a year since Infinity War‘s infamous cliffhanger. Now, with theaters around the world closed due to COVID-19, it feels rather surreal that such a massive movie event happened only a year ago. However, with movie theaters expecting to reopen by June or July, Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo made suggestion to release both Endgame and Infinity War again in celebration.

The suggestion came about when the Russos were on Cinemablend’s Reelblend podcast discussing their new Netflix film Extraction. When the topic of Endgame was brought up, they expressed that the most touching moment of their film careers was when many people were sharing their initial theater reactions to Endgame‘s iconic moments on social media. With both films garnering such a huge reactions, it proved to them that the theatrical experience is still an important one. When thinking about re-releasing the film this summer post-pandemic, they stated, “We would be ecstatic, I mean, any opportunity for people to go back and share in those stories together is one that we would support”.

With Black Widow being delayed, it will be over a year and a half since the last major Marvel film- Spider-Man: Far From Home– was released in theaters. If both movies were to be re-released, it will certainly help MCU fans see a Marvel movie this summer to make up for Marvel Studios’ unexpected hiatus.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
