The Russo Brothers, best known for their work directing four of the most massively popular MCU movies, have dropped their thoughts on the highly controversial streaming vs theater discussion.
The brothers were in a press conference for their upcoming film The Gray Man which will be released on Netflix when they noted that the industry is “in crisis” because everyone is arguing about things. They also said that the two of them loved going to the movie theater as kids but nowadays it’s “an elitist notion” that everyone can afford that experience. “It’s very fucking expensive,” says Joe Russo, who then proceeds to call the claim in which the theater is a sacred space “a load of crap because … it rejects the idea of allowing everyone in under the tent.”
The Russo’s support their deal with Netflix to release their new film on the streaming service, in addition to a select theatrical release, because the movie will be made available to more people who won’t have to pay for a twenty dollar ticket and forty dollar concession total. In the eyes of the Russo’s, streaming just makes the most sense because for the cost of one theater experience, you get unlimited access to entertainment.
