Millie Bobby Brown is set to star in the science fiction film The Electric State for Universal Pictures after a heated bidding war to win the rights to adapt the graphic novel by Simon Stalenhag of the same name. Joe and Anthony Russo will direct and produce through their AGBO banner. Mike Larocca will produce under AGBO as well.
Set in an alternate future and focuses on a teenage girl (Brown) who discovers that the mysterious yet sweet robot that comes to her was sent by her missing brother. She and the robot set out to locate her brother in an inventive universe, mixing with all kinds of robots uncovering a grand plot in the process.
“We’re thrilled to have this deal with Universal, who has committed to a theatrical release of ‘Electric State.’ This is incredible news for us as filmmakers and for audiences around the world who want an opportunity to experience films in theaters again. This is also a positive sign that, as vaccines become available, the theatrical market is returning,” said the Russo Brothers in a statement.
Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely with AGBO wrote the script for Avengers: Endgame, and Avengers: Infinity War wrote the screenplay for The Electric State. Brown is currently working on season four of Stranger Things.
