Right in the middle of the Toronto International Film Festival, Deadline has exclusively released the first trailer for The Promise, an exciting new historical drama from Hotel Rwanda director Terry George. The Promise recently had its gala premiere this past Sunday at the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto. Although it has yet to be acquired by a distribution company, it will certainly become highly desirable after the beautiful spectacle witnessed in the first trailer.
Set during the Armenian genocide in World War I, The Promise focuses on a love triangle between an Armenian medical student (Oscar Isaac), an American journalist (Christian Bale) and a French artist (Charlotte Le Bon). Although Bale is a veteran actor, The Promise smartly includes the high rising star of Oscar Isaac, who had a great run in 2015 with Ex Machina, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and a Golden Globe award for his turn in Show Me a Hero. Le Bon is a relatively new, under the radar actress that might find her big break with The Promise, and previously starred in The Hundred-Foot Journey and Anthropoid.
